An expressway segment along Hershberger Road joins I-581/U.S. 220 with Aviation Drive between Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA) and Valley View Mall.
SR 101 was originally proposed as a full freeway between Roanoke and Salem. The exchange with Aviation Drive north and Valley View Boulevard NW south was the only aspect of that plan built.1
