
U.S. 460 travels across nearly the width of Virginia, from the Kentucky state line northwest of Grundy to Norfolk just off Chesapeake Bay. U.S. 460 also leaves the Commonwealth of Virginia through southern West Virginia between Bluefield and Glen Lyn. The route joins Blacksburg and Christiansburg north of I-81. East from I-81, U.S. 460 continues into Salem and Roanoke en route to Lynchburg.
U.S. 460 follows bypasses of Farmville, Burkeville and Blackstone then converges with Interstate 85 at Petersburg. U.S. 460 overlaps with I-85 and I-95 to bypass Petersburg while U.S. 460 Business runs into the city center. Southeast from Petersburg, U.S. 460 comprises the main route to Hampton Roads. Joining U.S. 13/58, U.S. 460 heads east from Suffolk toward Chesapeake. The route parallels I-464 north into Downtown Norfolk.
