U.S. 301 Business through the Screven County seat of Sylvania overlaps with State Route 73 for 2.86 miles along Ogeechee Street and N Main Street. The route is poorly signed, either erroneously marked as U.S. 301, or not posted at all. SR 21BU overlaps with U.S. 301BU/SR 73 for 0.49 miles between Mims Road and S Main Street in Downtown Sylvania.
U.S. 301 Business at Sylvania was established by the Georgia Department of Transportation with the completion of the four lane bypass along the west side of the city. The American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO) approved both the relocation of U.S. 301 and the new business route on November 6, 1970. The southern leg of U.S. 301BU/SR 73 tieing into U.S. 301-SR 21/73LO was adjusted to eliminate a wye intersection. That change was certified by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on October 28, 1995.

U.S. 301BU/SR 73 (Ogeechee Street) continue southwest from SR 21BU (Mims Road). The business route is incorrectly marked as the U.S. 301 mainline.
