Another in a series of multi-state routes with Massachusetts, NH 28 runs 85.2 miles north from Methuen, MA to NH 16 at Ossipee through southeastern reaches of the state. Northward from Salem to Manchester, the route mirrors the course of Interstate 93, primarily serving local interests to Suncook and the separation with U.S. 3. The remainder of the route north through Allenstown, Pittsfield and Alton provides a route to Lake Winnipesaukee.
Three auxiliary routes accompany NH 28 including NH 28 Bypass, a 14.1 mile route between Derry and Hooksett and two sections of NH 28A. The southern NH 28A forms a 7.6 mile route from Londonderry north to Manchester and Hooksett while the northern component totals just 3.8 miles as a loop along Alton Bay of Lake Winnipesaukee in the town of Alton.
