Interstate 271 constitutes a suburban bypass of Cleveland northeast from Medina Township in rural Medina County to Willoughby Hills in Lake County. 40 miles in length, I-271 branches east from I-71 to the Hinckley Reservation, the village of Richfield and Cuyahoga National Park. Turning north, I-271 becomes increasingly suburban from Macedonia into Cuyahoga County.
I-480 combines with I-271 for 3.48 miles through the cities of Bedford and Bedford Heights. I-480 branches west toward Maple Heights and Cleveland while I-271 advances north to meet the north branch of I-480 at Warrenville Heights. Continuing north from I-480N, I-271 (Outerbelt Freeway) expands into four roadways with Express Lanes. The dual freeway configuration extends along I-271 to Beachwood, Mayfield Heights and other eastern suburbs to Interstate 90.
