Interstate 80 lowers from the Fred Schwengel Memorial Bridge into Rock Island County, Illinois just west of the village of Rapids City. The nondescript bridge over the Mississippi opened to traffic on October 27, 1966. Future road work replaces the crossing with dual bridges.1 05/24/18
Exit 1 loops away from Interstate 80 east to IL 84. IL 84 follows the Mississippi River southwest to East Moline, Carbon Hill and Colona and north to Fulton and Savanna. 95 miles in length, IL 84 extends ten miles north from Galena to Wis 80 at the Wisconsin state line. 06/23/22
IL 84 is part of the Great River Road system as it follows the Mississippi southwest to Hampton and East Moline and north to Rapids City and Port Byron. 03/31/16
The Illinois welcome center lies just south of IL 84 along Interstate 80 east. The advance sign for the tourist information center includes a dynamic message board indicating whether the facility is open or closed. 06/23/22
The welcome center off-ramp loops northward from Interstate 80 east to form an access road to a bluff offering views of the Mississippi River. Semi trucks over 40 feet in length are prohibited from using the rest area. 06/23/22
Interstate 80 east travels two miles south to the west end of I-88 and IL 110 (CKC) from the RIRO ramps for the Mississippi Rapids Rest Area. Interstate 88 stretches 143 miles across northern Illinois, from the Quad Cities east to Dixon, De Kalb, Aurora and the western Chicago suburbs. 06/23/22

Designated in July 1987, Interstate 88 replaced IL 5 from the Quad Cities eastward to Chicago. This includes all of the East-West Tollway from Sterling to I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway). IL 110 (Chicago Kansas City Expressway) was added to all of I-88 in 2010 as the eastern leg of a multi state route between I-35 and U.S. 36 in Missouri. 06/23/22
Exit 4 A leaves I-80 east for IL 5/92 west to Carbon Hill, Silvis and East Moline. IL 5 travels 15.73 miles from I-80 west to U.S. 67 at Rock Island. IL 92 is part of a multi state highway from U.S. 34 near La Moline west to Muscatine, Iowa and across Nebraska to Torrington, Wyoming. 06/23/22
Interstate 88/IL 92-110 travel from Exit 4 B, 5.6 miles to Joslin, where MSR 92 branches east. I-88/IL 110 curve northeast paralleling the Rock River 41 miles to Sterling and 44 miles to the beginning of the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway. 06/23/22

An IL 110 / CKC reassurance marker was added to Interstate 80 east by 2011. The Chicago Kansas City Expressway follows I-80 south onto Interstate 74 east. 06/21/22
A guide sign took the place of the reassurance shield for I-80 east after Exit 4 to direct travelers from I-88 west to I-74/280. 06/21/22
The city of Colona lies four miles south at the succeeding exit from Interstate 80 east. The Big X Interchange with I-74/280 follows in six miles. Chicago, which is more directly linked from the QCA via I-88, is 166 miles via I-80 and its connections. 06/21/22
South of the Barstow Road (CR 4) underpass near the unincorporated community of Barstow, I-80/IL 110 span the Rock River. A 299 mile tributary of the Mississippi flowing, the Rock River flows southwest from Theresa Marsh in southeast Wisconsin. 06/21/22

U.S. 6, which previously overlapped with Interstate 80 east into Davenport, Iowa, leaves the Quad Cities at south Colona. I-80 and U.S. 6 converge at a diamond interchange (Exit 9) one mile ahead of the I-80 eastern turn at I-74/280. 06/21/22
U.S. 6 parallels I-74/280 west to Coal Valley and Quad City International Airport (MLI), where the route turns north with I-74 through Moline to Bettendorf. 06/21/22
Exit 9 leaves I-80/IL 110 east for U.S. 6. U.S. 6 east parallels I-80 to Geneseo and Atkinson. The Big X cloverleaf Interchange lies ahead with I-74/280 west back to Moline and Rock Island. 06/21/22

There are no exits along I-74/280 west until U.S. 6 by Quad City International Airport (MLI). The airport lies south of the freeway off of U.S. 6, 27th Street and Airport Road. 06/21/22

A 8.6 mile exit less stretch leads Interstate 80 to the city of Geneseo. Joliet, 128 miles to the east, debuts on I-80 distance signs as the location where the freeway converges with I-55. 06/20/22
Leaving the Quad Cities area, Interstate 80 bee lines east through open farm land and forested hills surrounding Mineral Creek. 19,900 vehicles per day (vpd) were recorded by IDOT on this stretch in 2011 and 20,200 vpd in 2017. 12/27/09
