A diamond interchange was added along the Kansas Turnpike at Lawrence County Road 1 (222nd Street) as part of a $16.7 million project first discussed in the early 1990s. The exchange at mile marker 212 opened to traffic on December 29, 2009. Associated work improved a 5.62 mile section of CR 1 from K-32 north to U.S. 24/40.1

Part of a $130 million project replacing the bridges across the Kansas River, the trumpet interchange with U.S. 40/59 at Exit 204 closed on April 5, 2010 for reconstruction.2 With longer ramps and a roundabout, the new exchange opened to traffic on October 6, 2010.3
