SH 392 is the first of five exits for the city of Fort Collins along I-25/U.S. 87 northbound.

SH 392 previously ran east only from Exit 262 to SH 257 in Windsor, U.S. 85 at Lucerne and SH 14 near Briggsdale. The state highway was extended west over CR 32 by Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area to U.S. 287 in south Fort Collins.
