Drivers bound for Essex County 510 (South Orange Avenue) depart the Parkway southbound at a pedestrian overpass to adjacent Oraton Parkway. Oraton Parkway leads northward to South Orange Avenue. CR 510 travels east through Downtown Newark to New Jersey 21 and west to South Orange and Seton Hall University. 08/04/07
A short distance southward, the Parkway meets Springfield Avenue (CR 603) in Irvington township. Pictured here is the one-quarter mile approach at the 18th Avenue overpass. 08/04/07
Exit 143 carries drivers to Springfield Avenue (Essex County 603) via Washington Avenue, the southbound side frontage street. Springfield Avenue leads northeast to West Side and Downtown Newark. Westward, the commercial arterial becomes Route 124 at the Irvington/Maplewood township line. 06/30/05

A folded diamond interchange lies south of the Lyons Avenue underpass with parallel Union and Cleremont Avenues. Lyons Avenue (CR 602) east to Colt Street (Essex County 509) south provides a direct route to Hillside township. 08/04/07
Interstate 78 and the Garden State Parkway cross paths at the next interchange (Exit 142). Interstate 78 constitutes a busy freeway between the New Jersey Turnpike Extension and Holland Tunnel west to Newark, Springfield, and the western suburbs. Additionally the route provides a direct link to U.S. 1/9 south (Exit 58A) for Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). 06/30/05
Beyond the Interstate 78 off-ramp is the Exit 141 ramp to Vaux Hall Road and Union township. 08/04/07
Garden State Southbound at the Mill Road underpass and Union County line. Exit 142A departs the Parkway for Interstate 78 west to Springfield, New Jersey 24 west to Morristown, and Allentown, Pennsylvania.
A new flyover (Exit 142B) was added by December 2010 to provide direct access onto I-78 east to Newark and Manhattan, New York. 08/04/07
Until 2010, there was no direct ramp from the Garden State Parkway south to Interstate 78 west. Drivers bound for eastbound were directed onto I-78 west to Exit 50A (Vaux Hall Road south) to make a U-turn.
A $150 million project added the missing movements between the two roads during roadwork between April 2008 and September 21, 2011.1 08/04/07
After passing by the northbound main line toll plaza, southbound drivers meet the Exit 141 off-ramp to Vaux Hall Road in Union township. Vaux Hall Road (CR 630) meanders northwest to Interstate 78 and southeast to Union County 509 (Salem Road). The next exits join the Parkway with parallel U.S. 22 as it enters the area from Hillside en route to Scotch Plains and Somerville. 06/30/05
U.S. 22 sees expressway standards as it parallels the Garden State Parkway at Exits 140A/B. Route 82 follows Morris Avenue below both routes. For interests to central Union, Exit 140B provides a direct ramp onto Morris Avenue west. All other movements utilize Exit 140A onto adjacent U.S. 22 west with a loop ramp joining Ingersoil Terrace north for Route 82 (Morris Avenue) east to Elizabeth. 06/30/05
Union County 509 (and Essex County 509), which has shadowed the Garden State Parkway southward from Clifton, finally sees a direct interchange with the Parkway at Exit 138. A parclo interchange directs drivers west to Kenilworth via Kenilworth Avenue and east to Elizabeth via Galloping Hill Road. 06/30/05
New Jersey 28 (Westfield Avenue) begins and travels west from Elizabeth through Roselle Park to a folded diamond interchange with the Garden State Parkway at Exit 137. 06/30/05

Exit 130 provides direct access to both U.S. 1 north to Rahway, Elizabeth, and Newark and south to Edison, New Brunswick, and Trenton. The US highway parallels a power line corridor from Woodbridge Center Mall south to Bonhamtown in Edison. 06/30/05
Two lanes depart Garden State Parkway south for U.S. 1 in Woodbridge. There is no return southbound access as the Parkway prepares to split with a lengthy distributor roadway (Exit 129) for Interstate 95 (New Jersey Turnpike), Middlesex County 501, and U.S. 9 south to Interstate 287 north and Route 440 north. 06/30/05
Exit 129 partitions from the Garden State Parkway southbound ahead of the stack between Interstate 95 (New Jersey Turnpike) and Middlesex County 514 (Main Street). The multi-lane distributor roadway first enters a tri-level stack interchange with the New Jersey Turnpike connector road (to Exit 11) for Interstate 95 north to New York and south to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. 06/30/05
Traveling the Exit 129 ramp, drivers pass over the Turnpike and under Main Street before the split with ramps to Interstate 95 and the U.S. 9 freeway. U.S. 9 parallels the GSP through south Woodbridge to their respective Raritan River crossings. The adjacent freeway provides the movements to New Brunswick Avenue to Fords and Perth Amboy and the ramps to Interstate 287 north to Somerville and Route 440 north to Staten Island, New York via the Outerbridge Crossing. 06/30/05
The New Jersey Turnpike on-ramp departs Exit 129 for Interstate 95. A massive toll plaza lies ahead before respective directional ramps onto either the Cars only or Cars and Trucks roadways of the Turnpike north and south. 06/30/05
