A 5.64 mile long route, State Road 780 is an urban arterial linking U.S. 301 north of Downtown Sarasota with Interstate 75 along Fruitville Road. Unsigned CR 780 extends 23.36 miles east from Coburn Road to Old Myakka, Hidden River and along Clay Gully Road to Myakka River State Park and Sugar Bowl Road at Sandy in southeastern Manatee County.

The west end of SR 780 was previously located at the intersection joining Gulf Stream Avenue with U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) and SR 789 west onto Ringling Causeway. SR 780 followed Main Street east from Gulf Stream Avenue through Downtown Sarasota to N East Avenue and a dog leg north to 1st Street. Fruitville Road was eventually realigned over 1st Street and lengthened west over 3rd Street to U.S. 301 (Washington Boulevard).
