State Road 579 / County Road 582A - Fletcher Avenue

A half mile portion of Fletcher Avenue between U.S. 41 Business (Florida Avenue) and U.S. 41 (Nebraska Avenue) north of Tampa is state maintained and signed as Florida State Road 579. This section of Fletcher Avenue includes a diamond interchange with Interstate 275.

Fletcher Avenue east of Nebraska Avenue (U.S. 41) is Hillsborough County Road 582A. West from U.S. 41 Business to Dale Mabry Highway (SR 597), Fletcher Avenue is mostly an undesignated arterial, with the exception of a 0.51 mile segment attributed to CR 582A between N Armenia Avenue and Rome Avenue.

Though poorly signed, CR 582A lines Fletcher Avenue 6.02 miles east from U.S. 41 to the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Lettuce Lake Park and Interstate 75. There unsigned CR 582A ends and CR 579 begins. CR 579 follows Morris Bridge Road north 9.92 miles into Pasco County. It is unclear if SR 579 and CR 579 were ever connected.

A $1.2 million project repaved State Road 579 (Fletcher Avenue) from August 2019 to early 2020. The work added a raised median from east of I-275 to Summit Avenue and included sign replacements.¹

Fletcher Avenue - East

Fletcher Avenue intersects Orange Grove Drive just east of the commercialized stretch from SR 597 (Dale Mabry Highway) and S Village Drive. 04/23/21

Lake Magdalene Boulevard ties into Fletcher Avenue across from Tifton Drive. Lake Magdalene Boulevard was formerly part of CR 587A, a loop north and east to U.S. 41 Business (Florida Avenue). 04/23/21

Armenia Avenue heads south from Lake Magdalaene into the city of Tampa. It was also formerly a part of CR 587A. 04/23/21

Rome Avenue heads north from Forest Hills in Tampa to Fletcher Avenue at Lake Magdalene. 04/23/21

North Boulevard travels south from Fletcher Avenue into the Forest Hills and Lowry Park North neighborhoods near Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park. 04/23/21

East

Fletcher Avenue leaves the Carrollwood area and intersects U.S. 41 Business (Florida Avenue). SR 579 begins here. 04/23/21

SR 579 shields are posted in each direction of Fletcher Avenue between U.S. 41 Business and U.S. 41. 04/23/21

Like Bearss Avenue to the north, businesses line both sides of Fletcher Avenue within the vicinity of the diamond interchange with Interstate 275. 04/23/21

SR 579 east intersects Central Avenue next to the southbound entrance ramp for Interstate 275 through the city of Tampa. 04/23/21

Interstate 275 travels south six miles to the Downtown Interchange with I-4 where it turns west toward the Howard Frankland Bridge and St. Petersburg. 04/23/21

The southbound ramps with I-275 tie into parallel Central Avenue for access to and from SR 579 (Fletcher Avenue). 03/23/14

Passing under I-275, motorists turn left from SR 579 (Fletcher Avenue) east onto the freeway north to Pasco County and the connection with I-75 to Ocala. 01/17/22

Beyond the exchange with Bearss Avenue (SR 678), I-275 heads north to a long exit ramp for SR 56 at Wesley Chapel and I-75 along the Pasco County line. 04/23/21, 01/17/22

Fletcher Avenue connects Interstate 275 with the University of South Florida (USF) campus two miles to the east. 04/23/21

Fletcher Avenue becomes unsigned CR 582A beyond forthcoming U.S. 41 (Nebraska Avenue). The commercial boulevard enters the Tampa city limits at N 46th Street in 2.75 miles. 04/23/21

Nebraska Avenue carries U.S. 41 north to Chapman, where it converges with U.S. 41 Business (Florida Avenue) at Lutz. Southward, U.S. 41 continues along a four lane boulevard to Sulphur Springs, Seminole Heights and U.S. 92 (Hillsborough Avenue). 04/23/21

Fletcher Avenue - East

Fletcher Avenue (CR 582A) wholly enters the Tampa city limits east at N 46th Street and USF Laurel Drive. USF Laurel Drive is the second to last entrance into the University of South Florida campus from Fletcher Avenue eastbound. 03/06/23

N 50th Street runs along the USF campus and Tampa city line south from Fletcher Avenue to SR 582 (Fowler Avenue). 03/06/23

Northern reaches of the Temple Terrace city limits extend along Fletcher Avenue east between N 52nd and N 56th Streets. 03/06/23

N 56th Street is unsigned CR 583 south 1.01 miles to SR 582 (Fowler Avenue) and SR 583. SR 583 joins Temple Terrace with Grant Park and U.S. 41 at Highland Pines in east Tampa. 03/06/23

Fletcher Avenue crosses the Hillsborough River along the Tampa city line and ahead of the Temple Terrace city limits. 03/06/23

Telecom Drive loops south from Fletcher Avenue through Tampa Telecom Park. 03/06/23

Eastbound Fletcher Avenue expands to three lanes ahead of Morris Bridge Road and Interstate 75. 11/10/07

Bruce B. Downs Boulevard (CR 581) meets Fletcher Avenue (CR 582A) at the north end of a medical district adjacent to USF. Sparsely signed south of New Tampa, CR 581 is an 12.55 mile long route north from SR 580 (Busch Boulevard) at Busch Gardens to SR 56/581 in Wesley Chapel. 04/23/21

Passing between big box retail centers, Fletcher Avenue continues west to Livingston Avenue. This section of Livingston Avenue is discontinuous with the road leading north from Bearss Avenue to Lutz and SR 54 at Land O' Lakes. 01/30/15
