
13.05 miles in length, Volusia County Road 4118 is Pioneer Trail looping north from SR 44 by Longleaf Pine Preserve to SR 44 Business (Canal Street) west of Downtown New Smyrna Beach. Pioneer Trail connects newer suburban areas of west New Smyrna Beach with the census-designated place of Samsula-Spruce Creek.
Following the completion of the I-95 at Pioneer Trail Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study, with approval in January 2021, a new interchange will be constructed with CR 4118. $5.7 million in design work commenced soon thereafter. Project letting for construction is anticipated for June 13, 2023 November 13, 2024. Right of Way costs were estimated at $30.2 million, with construction adding another $48 million. Estimated costs in 2024 increased to $112.5 million overall.
Historically Pioneer Trail was part of Secondary State Road 40A. SR 40A was also assigned to Grand Avenue (CR 4053) north from SR 44 outside DeLand to U.S. 17 at DeLeon Springs.


A confirming marker for CR 4118 marks the eastbound beginning of Pioneer Trail from SR 44 at Ranchette Road.
