The right lane of Interstate 605 south becomes exit only for both Exit 10, Firestone Boulevard and Exit 9B, Interstate 105/Century (Glenn Anderson) Freeway west and Imperial Highway. With the completion of the Interstate 105 freeway in 1993, Firestone Boulevard was gradually removed from the state highway system. Its former designation of California 42 was decommissioned in phases as local cities took over portions of the route. This series of pictures follows the connecting ramp from Interstate 605 south to California 22 west to Long Beach (Exit 1A). At the point where the concrete lanes end, the stub ramp belies the point where a proposed extension of California 605 would have continued south to connect with California 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Such an extension is no longer likely to be built. This marks the southern terminus of Interstate 605; no end shield is present. Photos taken 05/02/10. |
