Interstate 10 West - Interstate 15 to Kellogg Interchange

Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west
After the interchange with Interstate 15 (Ontario Freeway), three exits serve Ontario International Airport. After Exit 57, Milliken Avenue (former California 31), three of the following four exits (Exit 56, Haven Avenue to rental car return; Exit 55B, Archibald Avenue to the main terminal; and Exit 54, Vineyard Avenue to long-term remote parking). Exit 55A, Business Loop I-10 (Holt Boulevard) is omitted from this overhead sign. For the next several miles, Interstate 10 passes through the city of Ontario until Exit 50 (Mountain Avenue). As of the 2000 Census, the city had a total population of 158,007 and incorporated in 1891. Ontario is home to the regionally significant Ontario International Airport. The city consists of 49.9 square miles and sits at 925 feet. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Westbound Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) reaches Exit 57, Milliken Avenue. Milliken Avenue is former California 31, which was replaced by the Interstate 15 freeway in the 1980s. Photo taken 06/17/06.
The next exit along westbound Interstate 10 is Exit 56, Haven Avenue. The two right lanes end between here and the exit, so through traffic should merge left. Photo taken 06/17/06.

The next exit along Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west is Exit 51, Seventh Street to California 83 (Euclid Avenue). California 83 is a surface arterial that follows Euclid Avenue through Upland to the north and Ontario to the south. The state route begins at California 71 (Chino Hills Freeway), follows Euclid Avenue north into the city of Ontario, crosses into Upland at Interstate 10, and then travels north past California 66 (Historic U.S. 66) to end at California 210 (Foothill Freeway) (even though there is no direct connection from California 83 to California 210). Photo taken 06/17/06.
Passing under Sixth Street, this mileage sign provides the distance to the next three exits along Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west: Exit 51, Seventh Street to California 83 (Euclid Avenue) to Ontario and Upland; Exit 50, Mountain Avenue; and Exit 49, Central Avenue to the city of Montclair. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Use California 83 to downtown. It could be argued that "downtown" refers to Ontario's city center to the south (near intersection with Business Loop I-10 (Holt Boulevard)) or Upland's city center to the north (near intersection with U.S. 66). Around this point, Interstate 10 turns due west and becomes the dividing line between Ontario to the south and the city of Upland to the north. Originally founded as North Ontario, Upland incorporated on May 15, 1906. As of the 2000 Census, Upland had a total population of 68,393. Upland consists of 15.1 square miles and sits at an elevation of 1,328 feet. Photo taken 06/17/06.

Use Towne Avenue north to Pomona High School and south to the Pomona Cemetery. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Westbound Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) reaches Exit 46, Towne Avenue. The next exit along Interstate 10 west is Exit 45, Orange Grove Avenue to Garey Avenue. The overhead sign for Exit 45 was apparently manufactured too big for the existing sign bridge, so the left and right panels were cut off from the main sign, resulting in the exit number not being visible. This error may have since been fixed. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Immediately thereafter, westbound Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) reaches Exit 45, Orange Grove Avenue to Garey Avenue in Pomona. No exit number was added when this sign was replaced in 2006. Photo taken 06/17/06.
The next two exits along Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west are Exit 44, Dudley Street and Exit 43, Fairplex Drive south to Business Loop I-10 (Holt Avenue) and north to the Fairplex. Photo taken 06/17/06.
This mileage sign provides the next three exits along Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west: Exit 44, Dudley Street; Exit 43, Fairplex Drive; and Exit 42, California 57 (Orange Freeway) north to Interstate 210 (Foothill Freeway) and south to Anaheim. Photo taken 06/17/06.
As soundwalls have been built along many sections of urban freeways in Los Angeles County, green guide signs such as these have been placed on the walls themselves rather than placed on separate posts. Photo taken 06/17/06.
A dynamic message sign is posted shortly thereafter to provide travel times to Interstate 605 and Downtown Los Angeles. Photo taken 06/17/06.
A single collector distributor lane configuration provides the connection from Interstate 10 west to both Exit 44, Dudley Street and Exit 43, Fairplex Drive. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Westbound Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) reaches Exit 44, Dudley Street; the next exit (from the c/d lane) is Exit 43, Fairplex Drive (to Business Loop I-10 and California 71 south). From the mainline, the next exit is Exit 42, California 57 (Orange Freeway) north to Interstate 210 (Foothill Freeway) and south to Anaheim. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Looking at the c/d lane from the main lanes of Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west, the second off-ramp from the c/d lane is for Exit 43, Fairplex Drive south to California 71 (Chino Hills Freeway) and Business Loop I-10 (Holt Avenue). After this off-ramp, the brief dual freeway configuration ends. Photo taken 06/17/06.
This mileage sign provides the next three exits along Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) west: Exit 42, California 57 (Orange Freeway) north to Interstate 210 (Foothill Freeway) and south to Anaheim; Exit 41, Kellogg Drive; and Exit 40, Via Verde. Photo taken 06/17/06.
The next interchange is a major freeway-to-freeway connection that links Interstate 10 with California 57 (Orange Freeway). Known as the Kellogg Interchange, this symmterical stack interchange (with directional ramps to California 71) towers over the surrounding valley. California 57 is a major north-south freeway corridor that travels south to Santa Ana and Anaheim before terminating at Interstate 5 at the Orange Crush Interchange. To the north, California 57 travels through San Dimas before ending at Interstate 210 (Foothill Freeway). Prior to California 210's extension east to San Bernardino, the Kellogg Interchange served as the eastern terminus of Interstate 210. Since Interstate 210 and California 210 are considered one route, Interstate 210 currently ends at its interchange with California 57 until AASHTO approves extending Interstate 210 east to San Bernardino. A token sign here advises that California 57 north connects to Interstate 210 west to Pasadena. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Westbound Interstate 10 reaches Exit 42, California 57 (Orange Freeway). The right lane connects to California 57 north to Interstate 210. The right two lanes also link to California 57 south to Santa Ana and Anaheim. There is no connection from Interstate 10 west to California 71 south, as this is considered an illogical connection. Photo taken 06/17/06.
With the California 71 ramps to the Kellogg Interchange serving as a background, this sign advises of the next off-ramp from Interstate 10 west to Exit 41, Kellogg Drive to California Polytechnical University at Pomona. The right lane becomes exit only. Photo taken 06/17/06.
The symmetrical stack of the Kellogg Interchange comes into view next as we approach Exit 41, Kellogg Drive. Photo taken 06/17/06.
Interstate 10 passes under the Kellogg Interchange. Interstate 10 remains at the bottom, while California 57 passes over the top. The two mid-level ramps are for connections between these two roadways. Photo taken 06/17/06.
