Interstate 90 East
Exit 396B departs Interstate 90 eastbound for Interstate 29 north to Brookings, Watertown, and Fargo. A full-cloverleaf interchange joins the two freeways. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Like north on Interstate 29, Interstate 90 sees a set of crossovers within the freeway median, east of the Kiwanis Avenue overpass. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Business Spur Interstate 90 begins at the Exit 399 diamond interchange with South Dakota 115 (Cliff Avenue). The business route provides a surface route into downtown Sioux Falls via its overlap with South Dakota 115. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Crossing the Big Sioux River on Interstate 90 east. Exit 399 serves Falls Park and the Sioux Falls Stockyards in addition to Sioux Falls Regional Airport. Photo taken 04/20/07.

Interstate 90 east at the Exit 399 ramp departure to Business Spur Interstate 90 south & South Dakota 115 (Cliff Avenue). South Dakota north 115 leaves Sioux Falls for Renner Corner and Baltic; southward the tandem head through industrial areas to Benson Road. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Trucks exceeding the maximum width on Interstate 29 south through Sioux Falls are directed onto Interstate 90 east and Interstate 229 south on a bypass alignment. Photo taken 04/20/07.

South Dakota 115 shield posted at the end of the Exit 399 off-ramp. The state highway was created in 1980 when U.S. 77 was relocated onto Interstate 29. But the highway deviates from the original U.S. 77 due to a 2001 relocation from North Drive onto Minnesota Avenue and Benson Road.1 Photo taken 04/20/07.
A close look at the first sign for junction Interstate 229 (Exit 400) on Interstate 90 east. Interstate 229 heads south ten miles through the city to junction Interstate 29. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Interstate 90 eastbound between Business Spur Interstate 90 & South Dakota 115 and junction Interstate 229 (Exit 400). Photo taken 04/20/07.
Exit 400 constitutes a half-cloverleaf interchange between Interstate 90 and the southbound beginning of Interstate 229. 476th Street ties into the junction from the north, but is not accessible from Interstate 90. Interstate 229 otherwise provides another route to downtown Sioux Falls. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Eastbound at the Exit 400 ramp departure to Interstate 229 south. Interstate 229 first meets Benson Road and then Rice Street. A business loop serves downtown between Exits 6 and 3. Similar to the south end of Interstate 229, signs at the north end receive no control points. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Leaving the Sioux Falls area on Interstate 90 east toward Brandon and Valley Springs. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Presently Exit 402 joins Interstate 90 with Timberline Avenue south and 478th Avenue north near the Big Sioux River. 478th Avenue leads north ten miles to the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) data center. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Interstate 90 continues five miles to junction South Dakota 11 at Brandon, but a new state highway (South Dakota 100) will tie into the freeway at Exit 402. Known also as the Eastside Corridor, South Dakota 100 represents a controlled-access bypass heading south and west through the rural outskirts of Sioux Falls. Construction on the first segment, near South Dakota, 42 is expected between 2008-09. Photo taken 04/20/07.
South Dakota 100 will begin at Exit 402 and head south to a proposed interchange at the future Benson Road extension. Exit 402 will be upgraded from a diamond into a single point urban interchange (SPUI) as part of the South Dakota 100 project. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Nearing the city of Brandon (Exit 406) on Interstate 90 east. Meeting the freeway ahead is South Dakota 11 (Splitrock Boulevard). Photo taken 04/20/07.
South Dakota 11 travels south through the heart of town along Splitrock Boulevard. Northward, the state highway enters the village of Corson. Brandon appears to be growing as a bedroom community of Sioux Falls. Photo taken 04/20/07.
Interstate 90 and its companion power corridor continue east to the Minnesota state line. Luverne, the Rock County seat, represents the next control point. Photo taken 04/20/07.
