Traveling across Cache County, State Route 101 originates in Wellsville, linking the city with Hyrum across the Cache Valley. The eastern extent of the 21.81 mile highway ascends into the Bear River Range and Wasatch-Cache National Forest through Blacksmith Fork Canyon to Hardware Ranch. Laketown Road extends northeast from the state route end.
