California 30 Business - Highland Avenue

California 30 Business follows Highland Avenue between California 259 and California 210 through northern San Bernardino. The business route was still signed through 2009, even after California 30 was decommissioned in favor of California 210 in March 2008.

California 30 Business east
Traveling east on Highland Avenue, the interchange with California 259 is marked for Interstate 215 south and California 18-30 east. This series of signs were likely replaced with the conversion of California 30 to California 210 in 2008. The overhead is porcelain enamel with no button copy and likely dates to the mid-1960s. Photos taken 07/15/07.
For the on-ramp to California 259 south, an Interstate 215 south trailblazer is posted. Photo taken 07/15/07.
This roadside sign provides the dual destinations of Riverside via Interstate 215 south and Los Angeles via Interstate 215 south to Interstate 10 west. Note that the California 259/Interstate 215 junction is the approximate northern/eastern terminal point of the San Bernardino Freeway, hence the Los Angeles control city. Photo taken 07/15/07.
Turn right at this traffic signal to California 259 south to Interstate 215 south. The next left connects to California 259 north, which merges onto California 210 eastbound. The older overhead sign directs motorists that the ramp to California 259 north leads to both California 18 north to Lake Arrowhead and California 30 east to Big Bear Lake. Prior to the extension of the California 30 freeway to Interstate 10, California 30 used to follow the path of today's California 330 into the mountains, hence why this sign advises of using California 18 or California 30 to mountain resorts. Photo taken 07/15/07.
A set of signs is posted at the base of the on-ramp to California 259 and Interstate 215 south. The temporary California 30 shield was posted as a construction detour due to the connection created between the original California 30 freeway and the California 210 freeway opened in summer 2007. A trailblazer for the former California 30 (now California 210) freeway is posted as well. Photos taken 07/15/07.
After passing under the California 259 overpass, turn left here to follow California 259 north to California 210 east. California 259 is a designated truck route per this trailblazer. Photo taken 07/15/07.
A California 30 trailblazer was posted shortly thereafter. Nowadays, this California 30 shield would instead be a California 210 shield. Photos taken 07/15/07 and 05/02/02.
California 18 Business & 30 Business east
After the California 259 interchange, a California 18 Business reassurance shield is posted on eastbound Highland Avenue in San Bernardino. Omitted is a reassurance shield for California 30 Business. The designation of this section as California 18 Business is due to the prior designation of California 259 as part of California 18. Prior to 1964, California 18 was defined to follow the Riverside Freeway corridor (Interstate 215 south and California 91 west) toward Orange County. That state route was truncated to its current interchange with California 210, but the business route has remained signed as far south as the California 259 and Highland Avenue interchange. Photo taken 07/15/07.
