California 207

California 207 is an approximately one-mile spur from California 4 near Lake Alpine north to the Bear Valley Mountain Resort (Mt. Reba Ski Area). The state route ends at the entrance to the ski area parking lot.

California 207 north
The sole purpose of California 207 to take traffic from California 4 (Ebbetts Pass Highway) northwest to the parking lot at the Bear Valley Mountain Resort, formerly known as the Mt. Reba Ski Area. The ski area first opened in December 1967 near the base of Mt. Reba (under the direction of local Maury Rasmussen) and remains in operation today. Photo taken 07/18/09.
Tall lineator posts line both sides of the highway to allow snowplows to see both sides of California 207 in times of deep snow. Drifts several feet deep are common along California 207 and nearby California 4 near the ski area and mountain resort. Photo taken 07/18/09.
The first reassurance shield of California 207 north is posted shortly thereafter. Photo taken 07/18/09.
The state route retains two lanes even as the highway gains elevation. The parking lot for the mountain resort lies at the top of the hill. Photos taken 07/18/09.
California 207 ends as it enters the permit area for the Bear Valley Mountain Resort. The endpoint comes a bit prior to the actual parking lot. The end shield seems to have been hit and battered a few times. Photos taken 07/18/09.
Continuing nearly due west, Mount Reba Road ends at the parking lot for the Bear Valley Mountain Resort. From this point, a driveway leads north down a series of switchbacks to the resort lodge, main parking lot, and ski run. Photos taken 07/18/09.

California 207 south
Leaving the Bear Valley Mountain Resort parking lot, California 207 begins its journey east and then south to meet California 4 a few miles east of Bear Valley Village. Photo taken 07/18/09.

While there is a northbound end shield, there is no first reassurance shield for southbound. Photo taken 07/18/09.
Two-lane California 207 makes a sweeping turn from east to south. Photo taken 07/18/09.
This series of photos follows California 207 south between the Bear Valley Mountain Resort parking lot and the California 4 (Ebbetts Pass Highway) intersection. Photos taken 07/18/09.
Southbound California 207 (Mt. Reba Road) approaches its southern terminus with California 4 (Ebbetts Pass Highway) intersection. Oddly, no signs are posted for California 4, and there is no end shield for California 207 south. Turn left for California 4 east to Ebbetts Pass and right for California 4 west to Bear Valley Village and Angels Camp. Photos taken 07/18/09.
California 207 scenes
Looking south and east from the top parking lot at the Bear Valley Mountain Resort is this view of Bear Valley looking toward Elephant Rock and Bull Run Peak in the distance. Photos taken 07/18/09.
