California 91 (Riverside Freeway) east

Eastbound California 91 (Riverside Freeway) meets Exit 50, Main Street. California 31 was designated until the completion of Interstate 15 between California 91 and California 60 in the mid-1980s. At that time, California 31 along Main Street and Hamner Avenue was eliminated and the route number retired. As for California 71, that route is currently the Chino Hills Freeway between California 91 and Interstate 10. It used to extend south via a path generally identified along California 91 east, Interstate 15 south, California 79 south, and California 371 east. With the completion of Interstate 15 and movement to reduce concurrent routes, the orphaned section of California 71 was renumbered as California 371. The next interchange along California 91 east is Exit 51, Interstate 15. Photo taken 05/02/10.

Interstate 15, which follows old California 31 between California 91 and Interstate 215, is a major through route north toward the high desert communities of San Bernardino County. The freeway was completed through the 1970s and 1980s, and today it carries a great deal of traffic en route to Barstow and Las Vegas to the north and San Diego to the south. Photo taken 05/02/10.

Follow Van Buren Boulevard southeast to the California Citrus State Historic Park. A fully operational citrus grove, preserved as a state park, allows visitors to see how citrus farming operated in Southern California before much of the old orchard land was gradually developed into today's housing and commercial development. According to the official park webpage, "The design of the park is reminiscent of a 1900s city park, complete with an activity center, interpretive structure, amphitheater, picnic area, and demonstration groves. The land contained within the park still continues to produce high-quality fruits." Photo taken 05/02/10.

The next exit along California 91 east is Exit 65A, Spruce Street. I theorize that the reason why Caltrans posted the Spruce Street off-ramp as Exit 65B rather than Exit 65A is because Spruce Street's off-ramp was realigned as part of the major interchange reconstruction project between California 60, California 91, and Interstate 215. However, even if Caltrans realigned the Spruce Street off-ramp, it should not be given a new exit number, since the original ramp is no longer in use. (The original ramp used to link to La Cadena Drive, and motorists had to take La Cadena Drive north to connect to Spruce Street.) Photo taken 05/02/10.
